Digital Food Photography Review

Great introductory book about food photography. Author's angle is directed at someone who is considering food photography as a career. This is a good introductory overview with reasonable depth. If you already know about food photography and are looking to expand your knowledge, you might find this to be generalistic and provide basic techniques. However, I give credit to the author. His technical chapters are thorough and will satisfy both the novice and the expert. The author's knowledge is excellent and his advice very helpful. He brings other aspects of food photography, such as organizing yourself digitally, do's and dont's of the digital photography side of things. His chapter of food styling is very good, maybe particularly helpful for the novice and intermediate photographers. The section on equipment for studio photography I found most helpful. He divided it by low, middle and high budget, which is great for the general audience, so you know what you need to get that matches your budget and know what you might upgrade to later. I wish he had more coverage of digital software, he defers that subject to a specialty book, which is ok, given the scope of this book. I recommend it to everyone interested in food photography as a great read.

This was one of the most entertainingly informative books I've had the pleasure of reading in awhile. Leonhard is not at all a fan of Microsoft and his cynicism drips on every page. Things I normally take for granted as "that's just the way it works" are dissected, and ways to hack around them are outlined. For instance, perhaps you don't like the way that the roller wheel on your mouse scrolls more than one line at a time. Woody shows you how to download the TweakUI powertoy from Microsoft, which has the ability to tweak that setting and seemingly a hundred more. He also suggests a number of other software packages (non-Microsoft, of course) to allow you to have a more safe and secure computing experience. Substitute Firefox for IE. Switch out MSN for Trillian or Gaim. Basically, you'll find dozens of gems in these chapters that will quickly pay back your investment in time and dollars with the book. Plus, you'll have fun reading it. Leonhard's a great writer...

Definitely a recommended volume to have at hand for your Windows XP computing experience...

It can very well be used as a text book. I recommend it as the first reading on the subject to technical as well as non-technical readers.

Over the years I have watched, listen and committed some of the most notable computer crimes in history. It is funny to me because some of the so called victims of these crimes are also the perpetrators. In 1990 a computer programmer was paid ,000 to write virus for an up and coming computer software company. After writing the virus and giving the source code to the software company, the virus was released. The software company sent out a press release telling the world that the world’s most dangerous computer virus in history has been released and that every computer user needed to protect their computer. Two days later the same computer software company released an antivirus program that could kill this virus, for a small price. This catapulted the small computer software company into the giant anti-virus software maker that it is today. We read about stories like this everyday. Are they real or are they staged? As an ex-hacker and computer fraud expert I like to keep up on the new dangers in this new era of Cyber Terrorism. As I read some of these stories I find it fascinating that the billion dollar computer Software Company’s can’t stop Spam. Is it because they make more money selling anti-spam software? Do you remember when you purchased anti-virus software there were no subscriptions? Now you may pay as much as a year for a subscription in addition to the 0 you spent on the software. In front of a famous eatery in Los Angeles a man is selling the newest copy of Star Wars. It was funny to me because the movie was not due out for almost a week. I asked him, “aren’t you afraid of selling these movies in the open like this”? He said to me, “I use to sell big time dope (drugs) , this ain’t nothing to me. I make a good profit and if I do get in trouble, I get less time. Believe it or not, the cops are my biggest customers”! From drug dealer to Hi-Tech Hustler. Only in America.

I enjoyed ' Aperture 2' because it's well-written and joy to read. Emphasis is placed on backing up your library and assets. Numerous time saving advice is given here. The section on Adjusting Images is excellent. The authors speak with authority as if they sat down with Apple Aperture programmer to get 'inside' info. This is of tremendous help even if you don't understand the jargon at first pass because you are being exposed to genuine information. The authors don't talk down to you or insult your intelligence. For example, I found the information on 'Edge Sharpen' tools to be a revelation. I didn't understand beforehand why Aperture offered both Sharpen and Edge Sharpen tools. Of course, now I know that Sharpen was introduce in Aperture 1.0 and is only in 2.0 for backwards compatibility. Edge Sharpen is much more sophisticated and therefore should be use. The authors gave a brief, but informative step on how to perform correct Sharpening to my photos. Again, information I could not find elsewhere. This book is a must for the professional and ama 'tour' alike who wish to improve and organise their photo assets within Aperture.

Sometimes Pierre Levy likes Michel Serres a little too much. Serres, a brilliantly original thinker, often explains that what he says and how he says it are inseparable, and is thereby in the best French philosophical tradition. Which works very well in his books, for the initiated, but Levy's probable attempt to emulate this in Collective Intelligence doesn't quite reach par, although at no point is he difficult to understand - the prose is just occasionally over-baked.

This being the only reason the rating dropped from five to four stars, on to what makes this an essential read. The title is a little unfortunate, as it will have some buyers believing here is another new-age bible about networked togetherness and pony-tailed social savvy. It isn't. Like Becoming Virtual, this is a serious book of philosophy, sociology and anthropology, with concepts and insights that make other theorising in the area of information technology, for example, look positively anemic by comparison. Above all 'collective' has wider meanings than the normal usage, and explaining how is probably the best way to review the book.

'Collective' usually implies a collection, a group of distinct things gathered together in some way to make a bigger thing. Some reviewers of the book use this meaning, suggesting Levy's idea is that technologies such as the internet simply extend traditional communication processes over large geographical distances, so that we can 'share information' better, and so on. Levy's collective, on the other hand, derives from Serres', where all large-scale, collective phenomena are distributive rather than summative - you don't make big, 'global' things by stacking lots of smaller, 'local' things, Lego-block style, because the local and the global don't have any necessary relationship. In fact they're separate things - this idea takes a LOT of getting used to, but once you're there you understand why Levy's concept of collective intelligence is so powerful.

Take for instance a government, with a representative parliament. Common sense, at least since Hobbes, says this government derives its validity and power from the fact that it is merely the aggregate body of citizens, who are its Lego blocks, if you will. The government is this mass of citizens added up, and represented by a few who sit at its head. Not so for Levy - each person, including government ministers, remains resolutely 'local', and a government is as local as where it happens to sit. What gives it wider or global efficacy is simply the fact that this particular local institution has managed to embody or even create certain interests which are common to the multitude of people it represents - they grant it power or allegiance because of this, but everything stays local. Decisions made by this government then give the appearance of controlling society simply because every local interest these decisions move through allows them passage, or enacts them (and when this changes to refusal, we see 'government' itself, many times in history, come under threat). This is what Levy means by collective or distributed action, where large-scale and small-scale phenomena have no ontological difference, merely a difference in emphasis. You don't find the global only at the central point (here, government), but at each and every local point in the society - the government is simply that place which has drastically simplified these millions of local actions into a (relative) few formulae which all can agree on, in one local place - parliament. It's not imposing its will, but is the distillation of these millions of local wills.

So what is collective intelligence? To quote Levy, "It is a form of universally distributed intelligence, constantly enhanced, coordinated in real time, and resulting in the effective mobilization of skills...No one knows everything, everyone knows something...". Intelligence for Levy is a combination of skills, understanding and knowledge. Skills are what we develop when we interact with physical things; our relations with signs and information give us knowledge; our interaction with others gives us understanding. All three apply to the same object simultaneously - we 'know' about genes, for example, by studying them in their instrumental physicality (skills), in conjunction with our colleagues (understanding), while manipulating our papers and concepts about them (knowledge). Levy adds his notion of collectives to this schema to show how, with the help of new information technologies in particular, each skill, piece of knowledge and understanding is now distributed, rather than isolated in some one place. The Greenhouse Effect isn't your ordinary, isolable lab object, because AS an object it is the co-creation of many different types of scientist, as well as politician, environmentalist, farmer and so on. It is a collective object, and we have to learn to be collectively intelligent about it. Similarly marketing has long since abandoned the attempt to correctly predict what 'people will like' and has incorporated them collectively in the entire production process, so products are becoming more a co-creation of consumer and producer - they are collective products. As in the political example previously, nobody can centralise knowledge any more than power, it is global in each place, and the objects we now produce only exist or survive if they can be animated by each locality, and represented and 'controlled' by another locality which is intelligently sensitive to these localities.

The range of this book must escape the scope of any 1000-word review. Levy does some fascinating anthropological work here as well, tracing the emergence of collective intelligence through different types of societies. And lots more. Read it.

Pierre Levy sees us as moving past an information economy into an economy based on human interactions; a social economy. While the idea may seem startling, given our current emphasis on all things monetary, his reasoning makes you stop and give careful thought to ideas you may not have considered before. As technology advances, Levy points out, it's capable of taking on more and more advanced tasks--first simple labor and now the processing of information. As these capabilities become easier and well within everyone's reach, their value declines.

But the one thing that is beyond the reach of pure technology is the construction and maintenance of social interactions. What technology can do, however, is make it easier for humans to interact over greater distances and around obstacles. "Our humanity," Levy writes, "is the most precious thing we have." Levy, who is a professor in the department of hypermedia at the University of Paris, then predicts that we will take greater control of that value and everything related to it as we use technology to organize ourselves into what he calls Living Cities. Here, physical location is less important than the interactions of its members, and not surprisingly, the lack of territorialities will challenge present methods of governance.

Levy insists we are in the early moments of an historical paradigm shift of the magnitude of the Renaissance. And yet he avoids wild utopianism, keeping a clear eye on the realities and challenges inherent in any great transformation, complete with ample opportunities for things to go wrong. What emerges, however, is a different way of viewing the possible future, and plenty of reasons for asking why this utopian vision isn't attainable.

I needed to create a complex scientific animation that overwhelmed PowerPoint's meager animation capabilities. I did not know anything about Flash. I have gotten great results with PeachPit's Visual Quickstart Guides for Photoshop and Illustrator in the past, so I took a chance and bought this one sight unseen. I was not dissappointed.

I read the first few chapters straight through, to get the gist of the program. Then I looked up individual sections I needed to get the job done. I took me a couple of days (and one late night) but I got the animation done. In the end there were more that 100 individual animated objects, each of which morphed in both shape and location. It was good enough to run continuously at a major trade show. I learned everything I needed to know from this book.

Like the other Visual QuickStart guides, this book covers individual common tasks in short chapters. These short, well-illustrated lessons tell you how to accomplish the task in clear language, with explanations of the different options and outcomes. I have no time to read an entire book to learn how to use a program. The "what you need to know to do accomplish this" approach used here works great for me.

If you need clear instructions on how to accomplish specific tasks in Flash, this is the book fr you. Highly recommended, no problems identified. Five stars.

I have learned an immense amount of useful information from this book. If the 'levels', 'curves', and 'adjustment layers' were ever scary words to you, then they won't be if you read through this book.

Many 'how-to' books and websites tend to exclude important comments such as "...ignore the fact that your image is covered with the selected texture." Comments like these are very reassuring and can make the difference in keeping some readers tuned in.

I'm still learning from this book, and plan on purchasing the new edition sometime soon!

Researchers have long sought to understand what the brain does when we see an object, what two people have in common when they see the same object, and what a "seeing" machine would need to have in common with a human visual system. Recent neurobiological and computational advances in the study of vision have now brought us close to answering these and other questions about representation. In Representation and Recognition in Vision, Shimon Edelman bases a comprehensive approach to visual representation on the notion of correspondence between proximal (internal) and distal similarities in objects. This leads to a computationally feasible and formally veridical representation of distal objects that addresses the needs of shape categorization and can be used to derive models of perceived similarity. Edelman first discusses the representational needs of various visual recognition tasks, and surveys current theories of representation in this context. He then develops a theory of representation that is related to Shepard's notion of second-order isomorphism between representations and their targets. Edelman goes beyond Shepard by specifying the conditions under which the representations can be made formally veridical. Edelman assesses his theory's performance in identification and categorization of 3D shapes and examines it in light of psychological and neurobiological data concerning the object-processing stream in primate vision. He also discusses the connections between his theory and other efforts to understand representation in the brain.

E.A. Vander Veer has written two "Missing Manual" books for Power Point 2007. One titled Power Point 2007 The Missing Manual for those more experienced in using PowerPoint, and this one, PowerPoint For Starters The Missing Manual for those starting out in designing slideshows and presentations.

The Introduction briefly covers the differences between 2007 and earlier versions, mainly the use of the Microsoft Ribbon interface rather than the old Files and Menus. The Missing Manual is divided into three parts.

Part 1 Creating a Slideshows covers the building of a slideshow adding text, charts, diagrams and tables.

Part 2: Delivering slideshows, provides choices for ways to present the slideshow to an audience.

Part 3: Beyond Bullet Points - graphics and transitions shows you how to add the parts of a good and interesting presentation. You can add pictures, sound and video.

PART 1

Chapter 1, Creating a Basic Presentation carries you through the basic steps, either from scratch or from templates, within PowerPoint or getting them on line. The trouble with templates is that everyone using them has similar looking presentations. You can be creative and design your own. Chapter 1 goes on to help you add slides with text and how to move the text around on the slide. The author warns you to "distill your message into as few words as possible" and "don't cram too much information onto your slide".

Brief instructions on making the presentation are included, namely the use of the scroll bar to select slides, either with the Slides view or Outline view. Chapter 1 does list the basic navigation tools, and refers to Chapter 7, a complete course for setting up and running presentations.

Chapter 2, Editing Slides goes into the details of editing text, checking spelling and adding special characters. Here is where the new Microsoft Office Ribbon interface shines. The author works you through the use of this great set of tools step by step, selecting cut, copy or paste, moving text and how to undo an action. A good section on checking the spelling covers automatic spell checking and contextual spelling (included in PowerPoint...with a warning). You occasionally need special characters in your text and we are given a brief reminder of how to obtain them.

Chapter 3, Formatting and Aligning Your Text, really gets down to the "creation" of an attractive presentation. The details of using Auto Format are discussed, as is AutoFit. Sure, you can manually format the text, but here we are shown how the programs "Auto..." does it for us. If you want to do it yourself, the Ribbon again is the master tool, but the "Mini Toolbar" which appears when a section of text is selected, is truly a wonder. Hovering over an icon changes the section to show the effects - Font, Size, Color, Bold, Italic, Alignment.

Adding Special effects is a short two page instruction on the use of text effects such as warping, beveled (3D) and pre-crafted effects.

The section called Manually Aligning and Indenting Text is an extensive course in setting up your slides to be neat, easily read and to "catch the eye". Here is where we learn to make the words "alive" to get attention.

Chapter 4, Formatting and Layout Your Slides, goes into the details of the slide layout, how to use "canned layouts", change orientation (Landscape or Portrait) and to reposition elements (text or objects). The use of color is discussed, either in backgrounds or in text, such as adding a Gradient Effect. PowerPoint has professionally designed themes and the author advises that one might want to use them instead of over-doing the "creative" thing.

Chapter 5, Editing Your Slideshow gives you the steps to inspect and revise your presentation, shuffle the slides, add slides from other slideshows, edit the Slides and Layout Masters. You can add Headers and Footers to slides, handouts, and speaker notes. This chapter shows you how.

Chapter 6, Adding Charts. Diagrams and Tables goes from creating charts, in detail, to adding diagrams and creating tables. Again, step-by-step instructions are given with very useful do's and don'ts to polish the presentation.

Part 2: Delivering Slideshows

Chapter 7, Delivering Presentations provides all of the steps in setting up, presenting and creating shows. Marvelous tips, warnings and aids are given.

Chapter 8 Printing Presentations covers the instructions for printing slides, handouts and overhead transparencies, speaker notes and presentation outlines.

Part 3: Beyond Bullet Points - Graphics and Transitions

Chapter 9, Putting Images on Slides is really a short course in drawing, adding pictures and modifying them.

Chapter 10: Slide Transitions is a short description of how to use the 50 plus PowerPoint built in transitions.

Sean Percival's book is one of the best about Second Life I have read. He takes you to many of the best shopping, entertainment, educational, adult only, and island living areas I have seen in Second Life. This book takes the reader off of the mainland and shows that the users of Second Life are truly creative; many of the locations featured in this book far outstrip the mainland content both visually and in software performance.

Percival's writing style is easy to read and entertaining, and serious or funny in an appropriate way. I have read some of what I call, "The Linden Approved" Guides.Those books have the feeling that the writers were simply mouthpieces for Linden.They also offer little in the way of things to do. Percival's book on the other hand, is easy to read; you can pretty much open up to any page and find something interesting or fun, without all the technical hoo-doo. This book is witty and offers a fresh look at what Second Life truly has to offer the adventerous avatar.

Speaking of adventures, Percival (aka sean Voss in-world) also features an in-world companion to his book where he offers tour services and landmarks to locations both in the book and otherwise. Hello, can anyone say innovation??? No CDs, no paid websites. Just good fun ready to access at the click of a landmark. In fact, the name of his island in world is Landmark Island, I found it in places in the Second Life Search Function. Easy, straightforward, interacive. That's using 3D internet the way it should be used!

Linden approved books are expensive, and they offer little more in the way of content that a person can't learn from other residents or experimenting with the building tools in-world. Not to impune Linden Approved titles; they are great for beginners, but I was looking for something more. I found what I wanted in Percival's book. It is much more reasonably priced, has a more fun tone, and offers the in-world companion. I highly recommend this book for anyone who really wants to get the most of their Second Life experience.

Some new users to Second Life may find that it can be very difficult to navigate this new 3D space and even harder to find some of the more interesting places to visit. This set of materials is about 4 hours of training, created by Garrick Chow. The lessons are divided into 12 areas: Getting Started; Exploring the Interface; Managing Your Sites; Learning the Basics; Linking; Working with Cascading Style Sheets; Working with Typography; Working with Tables; Using Layout Tools; Designing for Devices; Working with Rollover Images; and Publishing Your Site. Although videos are the heart of this "book," there is a small printed reference guide (167 pages) which briefly highlights selected points for each section. However, the manual will not replace the videos. Included in this collection are exercise files, which are the files used in the video demonstrations.

These video lessons are also found on lynda.com but this collection allows you to use the materials without paying for the connect time to Lynda Weinman's site or without having an Internet connection (or should I say a fast Internet connection, which posted videos often require). All of these videos are QuickTime so that player must be installed on your computer. An important thing to keep in mind if you purchase this video collection is that the videos will not run if copied to your hard drive, but must be played from the CD drive on your computer. The exercise files can be opened and used if copied to your hard drive.

As the title implies, these lessons are primarily aimed at a new user of Dreamweaver. Filmed with CS3, there are comments periodically in the videos if something "different" is available in this release of Dreamweaver, for example the option to preview web pages in various devices (hand held devices primarily).

I think these videos would be very useful to anyone starting Dreamweaver. One of the topics which typically confronts and confuses a new user is defining a remote server, and, of course, no single explanation can solve this problem, since servers are set up differently. This resource describes setting up a Tripod account (which is free), to give people an option to post files, if they do not have an established server already.

As someone who has taught Dreamweaver for several years, I still found things in this material that I had not used or used minimally (for example, changing the docking of panels, creating a site map, using a tracing image, using AP div areas for placing items on a specific part of a page, creating a disjointed rollover, and creating a navigation bar with images). Because of these "intermediary topics" these videos would further stretch the new user to tackle more than just basic text, links, images and tables.

I thought the introduction to cascading style sheets as they can be created in Dreamweaver was very good, so this resource would be useful to someone who had a basic understanding of Dreamweaver but still felt "fizzy" when dealing with CSS. There is not a lot of detail about doing a layout using CSS, but this video series is aimed at new users. I was happy, however, that the instructor included a video about creating a printer-friendly style sheet, and illustrated in a few steps some practical reasons to take the extra steps needed to create a screen versus a print style sheet.

I originally found this book on the Wyoming Made Products catalog, so thought I'd give it a try, being from Wyoming and all. I have the AnaLogon book right next to my computer and use it nearly every day. It is a simple concept, but who has the time to put one together for themselves! It becomes more and more valuable with each passing month. I also use it for account numbers. I always use pencil to enter info as passwords, logons, etc. tend to change over a period of time. I've had mine for about a year now and it is getting that well used look. WEll worth the price.

This is a real cool book, not really any application for me professionally, but it was fun to try to make the examples. It was a fun exercise in a completely different realm of C than I am used to. Kind of like a cross-word puzzle based on a genre you were totally unfamiliar with, but A fun learning process just the same. Had I seen the picture of the Author prior to purchasing this book I would have clearly known that this was a science text as he just has that "scientist" look about him. I would recommend this to any C programmer that has extra time on their hands, really loves C and wants to try something way out there more on the scientific side of C or if fractal programming does apply to your profession.

Audio books and MP3 Players - A Perfect Couple?

Most manufacturers hear the Mp3 players' plan their product for the purpose of music. But used in recent years more and more MP3 player for listening to audio books. There is a difference between the needs of the MP3 Player for audio books and MP3 music. When you consider your new MP3 player for listening to audio books with the view of the following considerations:

1. Behavior after a break - This is themost important consideration should be taken into account. Not be heard when listening to audio books than music, you still want to hear from the point you have stopped and not from the beginning. Most MP3 players do not have the option of the exact point in the audio book on, but from the beginning of the same file. However, some MP3 players will not have a continuation option and the beginning of the audio book after an interruption.

If you are a businessnew MP3 player check it plays - an audio book, remove the batteries and then reset the batteries and check whether the MP3 player to start from the beginning of the same file or from the beginning of the audiobook.

2. Memory - The required memory depends on the MP3 format of audio tracks, the length of the audio book and the number of audio books you want on your MP3 player to load.

MP3 players usually come with a flash memory. You can use a memory card in most of thePlayers. The minimum memory 128 MB required (less is enough for a short audio book of approximately 6 hours). Try to get the biggest memory possible of a combination of flash memory and memory card.

3. Volume - The volume is one of the main problems associated with the audio books. Some MP3 players have an annoying limitation of the high volume. Therefore, it is almost impossible to hear the audio book in a noisy environment like an airplane, train or a gym room. Our advice is to be setthe headphones into the store and make sure there is a loud volume, which will be sufficient for listening to audio books.

Nevertheless, most MP3 players, the experience of listening to an audio book to listen much better than to make audio books on CD and books on tape. Try it, you can even download audio books for free and receive a free MP3 player.

I've created a list of book review guidelines that follow a big one.

For a better knowledge of the letter follow this checklist:

Always underline a book title
Never start a sentence with words such as, but then, And Or
Spelling out numbers one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine and ten
Remember, numbers twenty-one over ninety-nine, all hyphens in them.
Avoid using slang.
Use correct punctuation and spelling. With the use ofText messaging children are forgetting to appreciate the valuable use of the correct name and address or their own text for the words that are detrimental because they need to develop an appropriate writing skills.
Do not start the next sentence with the same words that began the last sentence.
No contractions are used. All words should be fully made clear.
Use a thesaurus, so that you can use a variation of the same word instead of repeating itself.

Checklist prior toturn in your book report:

Fill out the form book as you read the book. Once you're done, you may have forgotten an important role.
Read about your report and make sure everything sounds right. If not, correct the information before the report to your teacher.

This is one of my biggest problems with students:

Make sure that everything is spelled correctly.
Do you have correct punctuation?
Is there a title?
If your postsclean and easy to read?

If you like the top of the list when creating your book report you should write down and have a simple experience that any time you have to prepare a new project.

This book should be required reading for every IT professional because unless security is everybody's business there will be no real security. The problem to date is that IT security is becoming increasingly complex, and the reality of Internet connectivity just adds to the complexity.

What makes this book so valuable is that it clearly explains the fundamentals of Internet security and its most important parts in terms that someone who is not a security professional can understand. Aside from the complexities of security itself, factors such as cryptography, authentication and public key infrastructure and messaging are highly specialized and difficult for the non-practitioner to grasp. Again, this book clearly explained those in such a manner that you "get it".

The authors don't stop with a great discussion of security in general and the technical issues in particular, they next lead you through the development of a plan to address common exposures. I like this approach. I also liked the response scenarios and advice for steps to be taken when you inevitably become a victim - and chances are that you will if your company is on the Internet (and what companies aren't these days?)

This valuable 375-page book wraps up with a big picture view of a total security package and two appendices: one on available security tools and the other a computer emergency response team (CERT) report template.

I highly recommend this book to anyone in IT, especially management, because awareness is the first step towards an effective security program. It is so well written and packed with great advice and information that it earns a solid 5 stars.

Book Review of "The Hiding Place"

The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom, is the ultimate story of love and forgiveness. It is the redemptive story of an elderly woman and her family, dealing with the anti-Nazi underground movement involved in hiding and securing the Jewish people. Living in Holland, a neutral state, the German siege of the country and enforce their strict regime for the citizens there.

This true story offers a glimpse into the lives of ordinary people capable of extraordinary measures. The Ten Boom FamilyAn example of the close family ties, traditions steeped in religion and values rooted in morality and humanity for all. Members of the family to work in the underground prison on anti-Nazi movement, whose aim was to aid the Jews from the fury of the Germans. Live their lives amid the horrors of war, is facing the Ten Boom family with untold suffering and forced to side with the people they will vote on. This gives the reader theOpportunity to ask themselves whether they are capable of similar decisions when the time calls for it.

This moving account shows how a belief in the moral fiber of a character may provide, so that to make further progress, even in inhuman conditions, including the despair and lack of dignity of the war.

Corrie's mother once told her that "Happiness is not something on our environment, depends ... It is something that we make in ourselves." Hers is a wonderful example for the discovery of your life's mission in the middle of his own life.

While some may view the account so openly optimistic and hopefulthe story is certainly not likely to endure the pain and the suffering of the persecuted, including many members of the Ten Boom family in the concentration camps during the Holocaust. What is different is that Corrie saw hope in every situation in which it was. She puts her faith in God's hand and realizes that with him there are no accidents. Hers is the belief that it carries out, in which the concept of the divine. She lives with the knowledge that will defeatGermans.

Steve Jobs says Americans have stopped reading. "Forty percent of people in the U.S. read one book or less last year," says Jobs. In this sense, this contribution is for non-readers. What follows is a list of the best books on the planet. That's it. Only the list. No comment. No explanation. No evidence.

I can not hear you readers groaning from here. What is the meaning of a list of books (no matter how large), if I do not intend to read one of them? Good point. You see, I willbet you can have several countries in Central Europe (Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, name, etc.), but you've never been a been from them. I bet you know the highest mountain in the world (Mt. Everest), but no one was in need of a rocket launch site. Damn, I bet you can, the capital of South Dakota (Pierre) name.

My point is that the knowledge of these things makes you angry to make smart, ridiculously self-aware, and be a real pleasure, even if wildly around the information useless. RememberThe authors and book titles on my list, and you can add powerful literary damn to your list of virtues.

Great books, on the other hand, have many applications (other than to read it). Doorstop. Eye-catching trinkets. You get the picture. Okay, here is my list of the best all-time doorstop. The choice of a book - very difficult for some people, very easy for others. Their goal is to find a book that will produce a good discussion as well as something that you want to read.

Book club agreed to set up guidelines - there are certainly rules you must follow, and as a group when you book as a group and not just a regular gossip session will be successful.

Book club menu / food choices - you want to do appetizers? Heavy desert? Full dinner? Followa book theme? The possibilities are endless.

Type of club - you can choose to create your own club on a particular topic (ie, yoga, cookery books, nonfiction books, etc)

The key to a successful book club is, the structure and the search for a group of people who should be conducted in accordance of the type of reading group, are. I'll give you an example with my "real" book club, as the function.

The No-Whining Allowed Club is our name. We meet once a month on the first Tuesday ofMonth. At the meeting we will discuss the last few months to get the book. Our basic structure is: Arrival at 6pm, catch up on gossip and eat hors d'oeuvres, dinner and discuss serious matters (book not related!) Go into an area where we all sit in a circle and discuss the book and have desert. Our book discussion range from 30 minutes to well over an hour, depending on how well have we read in a book. The person who chose the book always starts with the rating of 1-5 tracks. Then we all go toand do the same. After the floor is open for discussion. At the end of the meeting next month, the book also reveals the landlord.
